Music retail, musicians, and music
education share a partnership.
Neither can survive without the other. |
| |
Rob Gibson, owner of Holze
Music Company, believes strongly in this motto, using it as the
schematic for running his music company. Holze Music Company strives
hard to fulfill its share of the partnership as a full-line music store.
Holze Music does not just rent band and orchestra instruments, but
retails all types of musical instruments including guitars, amps,
pianos, keyboards and drums, as well as sound systems, sheet music,
instructional media and karaoke. Holze Music’s main office in Waco is
the flagship store of the six store regional chain, with other locations
in Round Rock (Band Stand), Temple, Killeen, College Station and our
newest addition the Piano, organ and keyboard showroom also in Waco.

History of Holze Music Co. |

Austin Ave. Store |
Holze Music Company
started as a small repair shop in September of 1937. Founded by
Lewis Holze, from the German community of Reisel, the first store opened
on Austin Ave. in Waco, TX. After surviving the historic tornado
of 1953, which wiped out the majority of downtown, the store moved in
1954 to 600 North 18th Street, in the heart of the new
business district. The new store was known as a fantastic
showplace, and soon began to carry pianos and televisions. Band
and orchestra instruments were scarce at this time due to the war, so
the pianos and televisions helped to bring in the revenue. |

At this time, with the
enlisted men and women coming back from the war, the baby boomer
generation was underway, and the schools decided music education was
something that needed to be focused on. With the new demand for
school instruments, Holze’s was eager and willing to help. In
1972, Holze Music opened its second store in Waco at 1210 Lake Air
Drive. Rob Gibson, a band director in the Waco Public Schools,
began apprenticing with Lewis Holze to learn band repair in the summer
of 1972. In 1977, the Holze Family asked Rob to come aboard as the
manager of the band and orchestra department. |

As the scene of music was
changing, so was the inventory of Holze Music. Alongside
saxophones and clarinets were now guitars and amps. The company
continued to grow, as it opened its newest store in Temple, TX in 1978.
The company would continue to grow, however, Lewis Holze would not be
around to see it. In 1979, he passed away suddenly, leaving the
business to his two sons. |

The company saw many changes after the death of
Lewis Holze. They continued to grow, opening in Killeen in 1983.
In 1991, Rob Gibson took over ownership of Holze Music Company. The
expansion continued under Rob’s leadership, opening up new stores in
Bryan/College Station in 1997, Round Rock in 2005, Lewisville and Plano
in 2006 and Frisco and Houston 2007.
Holze Music’s expansion, along with the
departure of a major music store chain, left Holze Music with it’s ten
locations the largest music retail chain in Texas. Now owned by
Rob Gibson and his son, Kyle, both graduates of Baylor University with a
bachelors in Music Education, the store continues to thrive under the
leadership of these two former band directors. |
